The Parks Department is looking to add more to the Ferry Point Park 9/11 living
memorial.
The memorial is one of five living memorial groves in New York City.
It is meant to be a place of peace, reflection and remembering the lives lost
on Sept. 11, 2001.
If approved, the new project will add a flagpole, new park paths and a drinking
fountain. It would also make it ADA compliant.
"We
want this to be an area of contemplation, an area to reflect…regard and honor all
the many lives lost,” says Iris Rodriguez-Rosa. “I think the Parks Department
respects that and that's why it gave the different five locations throughout
the city.”
The design is expected to be completed this winter. If approved, construction
will begin in 2023.
