A dog mangled a Bronx man's hand over the weekend, and neighbors say it's the sixth such attack in as many months.
Rukon Hakim says his 72-year-old father, Abdul, was leaving a 204th Street restaurant Saturday afternoon when a pit bull bit his hand.
The older Hakim wound up hospitalized, awaiting major surgery.
Witnesses say they could see exposed bone in his hand after the attack. They say the dog's owner handed the leash to his two young daughters in the moments before the bite.
The dog owner then tried to sneak away after the incident, but Hakim says police caught him.
Supporters say they are working with the NYPD and community boards to raise awareness about dog attacks, which they say are an ongoing issue in the community.
The younger Hakim says he is working with lawyers because he wants the dog owner to cover the cost of his father's medical bills.
