Three suspects are wanted for the killing of a 45-year-old man Friday morning on a downtown D train.
Police say the victim, 45-year-old William Alvarez, was approached by three suspects, two males and one female, on a southbound D train on Friday morning. One of the suspects seated themselves next to the victim and began exchanging words.
The altercation escalated into a physical fight involving all three suspects and Alvarez. The suspects fled from the subway at the East 182nd Street and Grand Concourse subway station.
Law enforcement officials say that Alvarez was found dead with a wound to his torso. They say the wound is similar to that of a gun wound or puncture wound from a sharp object.
The station's entrances were closed during the investigation Friday morning and later reopened.
An MTA representative told News 12’s Samantha Chaney that police have a clear video of the incident that could possibly be used to catch the perpetrators. However, they have not shared the video.
This incident comes a week after a man was fatally shot on a 4 train platform at the Mount Eden subway station.
Police say there has been a 22% rise in New York City subway crimes compared to the same time last year.
Mayor Eric Adams announced earlier this week that more police will be patrolling train stations and working longer hours.
