A man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting a person and a dog in a hotel room, according to the Liberty Police Department.
Officers responded to the Knights Inn on State Route 52 this past Monday following reports of a broken door and a possible altercation involving a dog.
The suspect, 32-year-old Nigdrew Reynolds, allegedly threw a rock through a hotel window and broke down the door to enter the room unlawfully.
Police say Reynolds then began attacking the person and dog inside. The assault spilled into the hallway, where bystanders intervened and tackled Reynolds to stop further harm to the animal.
Reynolds, a bystander, and the dog’s owner were injured by the dog as it defended itself and its owner.
Reynolds was arrested at the scene and charged with burglary, criminal mischief, assault, and overdriving, torturing, and injuring an animal.
He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
