Two women and a female teenager were fatally shot by a gunman who eventually took his own life in Brownsville, police say.

Police are calling the incident a murder-suicide. They say it happened on Sutter Avenue in and around the Van Dyke Houses at around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say a 9-year-old girl called 911 for help. She is believed to be the daughter of the gunman, identified as Joseph McCrimon, as well as one of the victims.

Officials say McCrimon's body was first found outside in a walkway not far from an entrance to the apartment with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police then walked inside the building and found two other victims in the hallway, and then a third victim in an apartment on the fourth floor. They were all found with gunshot wounds.

Police believe the gunman shot all three of them and was possibly the boyfriend of one of the victims.

The three female victims have been identified as 45-year-old Rasheeda Barzey, 16-year-old Chloe Spears and 20-year-old Solei Spears.

Police say 16-year-old Chloe Spears and 20-year-old Solei Spears are the daughters of 45-year-old Rasheeda Barzey.

Both are half sisters of the 9-year-old child.

Solei Spears was a student at Baruch College. The school released a statement saying, “Baruch College is saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Solei Spears, 20, who was a junior majoring in political science. The Baruch College community extends deepest sympathies to Solei’s family, and her friends both at Baruch and at home.”

According to the New York state Department of Corrections, McCrimon was convicted of manslaughter in Nassau County in 1995. He was released from prison in 2003 after serving his sentence.
