People in the Allerton community held a rally on Saturday outside of a building that’s intended to become a drug treatment facility.

Protesters said they are feeling deceived and were lied to about the sale of the building at 2500 Williamsbridge Road, right across from P.S. 89, to Carnegie Hill Institute for it to be used as a possible drug rehab facility.

The community said Councilman Mark Gjonaj told them at a November town hall meeting that the sale was a "dead deal," and that the building would not become a methadone clinic or rehab and it wouldn't be sold to CHI LLC, which wanted to buy it for $1 million.

“I am here and I am here with you. This should not become a rehab center. It must not be," said Gjonaj, who attended Saturday’s rally.

The building being sold to CHI seemingly comes as a shock to most, including Gjonaj and Assemblywoman Nathalie Fernandez, who said they are against it.

Gjonaj said it was a private transaction that did not call for government involvement.

A representative from Exit Realty Group, the realtor involved, was also on site to explain what exactly happened with the contentious sale. She said the company sold it to a private individual, who then sold it to to CHI.

City documents show the deed was sold to CHI Bronx, LLC for $925,000 back in February and the seller is listed as a Florence Klapper out of Manhattan.

News 12 The Bronx tried to reach out for comment, but was hung up on.

Gjonaj said he reached out to CHI and they did not specify what the building would be used for. But demonstrators made it clear they do not want a methadone clinic on the site for the safety of the community and its children.

No application has been given to the state's Office of Addiction Services and Support for now, so the community will be sending out a petition to that office to block the sale from going through.
