Residents in a University Heights neighborhood want something done about a home that has sat vacant for a decade.
Samuel Alston Habib says the house next door to him, located at 36 West 184th St., has peeling paint, rotting wood, cracked siding, and garbage near the basement door.
According to the city's Department of Finance website, the University Heights property belongs to Toobe Castro. News 12 called two phone numbers listed to the owner and got no answer on one, and the other was disconnected.
This month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill to help reduce the hundreds of vacant foreclosures and abandoned properties across the state.
Under the law, it establishes a statewide registry and hotline where neighbors can report vacant properties.
Meanwhile, Community Board 7 says it's looking into the issue of the vacant family dwelling.
