City sanitation workers are working an hour earlier to collect trash from New York City streets.
Originally, shifts run from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting Monday, April 22, the shifts will be 5 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The initiative is all part of the city's efforts to get streets cleaner faster.
Sanitation officials say trash now can't go out on the curb earlier than 6 p.m. in a bin or 8 p.m. in bags. DSNY says a lot more garbage is being picked up at midnight to avoid trash sitting out and attracting rats.
