Tenants at the Sotomayor Houses in Soundview say they have been without heat for more than a week, even though NYCHA says the heat was restored.
Madeline Martinez, a resident at 1824 Watson Ave., says her bedroom is like an icebox and that she has no hot water in her kitchen. Martinez says she and her young daughter had to sleep on the sofa in the living room Tuesday night where it was a bit warmer.
Tenants told News 12 Tuesday that they weren't getting any answers from building management about when the heat would be turned back on
After News 12 reached out to NYCHA, the agency said heat had been restored and that staff was checking on all apartments to confirm it was working properly. Although some residents say they did get heat back, others, like Martinez, weren't as lucky.
"You feel like you're outside, like you're walking outside. That's the same way I feel in the room, like I'm outside," she says.
Tenants say they want the problem fixed for everyone, and quickly.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA for a response, to which the agency said heat has been restored and that its staff is working to prevent heat outages citywide.
