SUNY Maritime College is now the official port of the Empire State VII. It's the first of five training vessels developed by the United States Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration's National Security Multi-mission Vessel program.
The state-of-the-art ships are designed to bring the maritime industry into the future by giving future mariners new technology to work with and learn from.
The Empire State VII has a full training bridge, room for 600 cadets to learn, a helicopter pad, as well as hospital facilities for disaster relief missions.
Massachusetts, Maine, Texas and California will also get these training vessels in the future.
The college says public tours of the ship will begin in the near future.
