Williamsbridge residents say a vacant lot in their area looks like a “dumping ground.”
Empty coffee cups, bags of chips, plastic bags and even a car are among the trash littering the grass of this empty lot. The lot on Willett Avenue and East 213th Street is not a garbage disposal, however.
As reported in the Bronx Times, residents have been complaining to the city about what the lot has become for the past year. And though people in the area told News 12 that sanitation crews do come to remove the trash, it quickly piles up again.
The city Department of Buildings told News 12 that they did issue a violation to the owner of the lot, which is listed under Plaza Homes LLC. The hearing is scheduled for April.
The department added that the maximum penalty for this violation could run up to $10,000.
In a statement, the city Department of Sanitation said it is aware of the situation at this private property and has cleaned the lot six times since January 2019. The most recent was done earlier this month on Jan.6.
News 12 also reached out to the owner of the property and is waiting to hear back.
