If you’ve ever walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, you know how crowded it can get. People from around the world come to New York City just to see the bridge -- but Justin Rivers, from
Untapped Cities tours, explains it wasn’t always like that.
There was a period where people were terrified that the bridge was going to collapse. In fact, 12 people lost their lives back on May 30, 1883.
"You have to remember -- at that time women wore puffy dresses,” Rivers says. A woman tripped and caused everyone else to believe the bridge was collapsing. That day 12 people lost their lives.
