This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Your News 12 Storm Watch Team meteorologists are here to keep you safe and informed when severe storms are in your neighborhood. On our first Weather Trivia Wednesday, the topic is severe weather safety.
All thunderstorms are dangerous. Whether severe or not, they still pose a threat to human life and property. Lightning is one of the biggest threats with thunderstorms. The safest place to be during a thunderstorm is your home. The worst place to be during a thunderstorm is an open field.
Over the last 30 years, the U.S. has averaged 43 reported fatalities every year from thundertsorms. Just last year alone, six people were struck by lightning in the Bronx, with one fatality. When we say, "When thunder roars, go indoors” - seek shelter immediately to protect yourself from thunderstorms.
Thanks for joining me for Weather Trivia Wednesday, see you next time!
