West Concourse neighbors say they don't know how much longer they can wait for their broken elevator to be fixed.
They say it's been broken for nearly six months.
Joyce Kanu, 86, says she has no choice but to walk up and down more than three flights of stairs every week - not because she wants to, it's because she has to.
“Otherwise, I just… forget it,” she said.
Since May, Kanu has relied on neighbors to help her up and down the stairs. But that crutch is not always there. Kanu has her trusty walker, but it can only help so much. Her ankles are constantly swelling, and pressure can cause serious pain.
“My club at church had something and when I got home, I couldn't walk,” said Kanu. “My grandson had to pick it up and put it on the stairs.”
David Tennenbaum– dubbed one of the worst landlords in the city— owns Denali, the group managing the building. The location has faced over $60,000 in penalties for previous violations.
“You collect the rent, but you are not doing what you are supposed to do,” said an upset Kanu.
News 12 reached out to Denali Management to address the issue, but it refused to answer questions on the phone.
For now, Kanu is left inside, four months without a doctor's visit, waiting for a solution.
