Police are searching for a woman wanted for committing a hate crime Tuesday afternoon at the Edmonds Playground in Fort Greene.
Ashish Prashar says he was at the playground with his son when he was assaulted. He says his son had been playing with another child when the child's mother, who identified herself as a Jewish American, approached him.
He says the woman asked him, "Do you support Hamas? Your people burn babies in ovens and I hope somebody burns your baby in an oven."
That's when Prashar, who was born in London and is Punjabi, began recording. The video has already garnered a lot of attention on social media. He claims the woman targeted him because he was wearing a Palestinian scarf and because of the color of his skin.
In the video, the woman is seen marching toward the father. She then is seen throwing items at him. Police say she threw a cellphone and a cup of hot coffee. Prashar says he and his son were fortunately not physically hurt.
Eventually, she exits the playground and has yet to be caught. Prashar is sharing his story with hopes of raising awareness and setting an example for his son.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
They describe her as someone with a small build, last seen wearing a black and white baseball hat, black sunglasses, gray scarf, black zip-up jacket, black fanny pack, black sweatpants and white sneakers.
