A 2-alarm fire left two injured in Gerritsen Beach Thursday night.
The fire department says the fire broke out at around 8 p.m.
Neighbors say they could see the fire engulfing the first and second floor of the two-story home on Gerritsen Avenue, which many say they thought was actually vacant until now.
The fire department says two people were treated for minor injuries.
Cynthia Lew tells News 12 she lives directly across the street and heard the fire before she saw it overtake the house.
"I was actually downstairs in the basement. Then I heard a loud bang and a lot of ruckus going on outside, so I came running outside...I've never experienced a fire like this ever before. The smoke was like all over, like really in the air,” said Lew.
