An immigration rally was held in Manhattan with advocates and elected leaders demanding the federal government step in and help the asylum seekers who continue to arrive in New York City.

Nearly 8,000 migrants have arrived on buses to New York and Washington, D.C. over the last month from states like Texas and Arizona, according to published reports.

The Texas and Arizona governors say this is their response to President Joe Biden's so-called open border policies. Mayor Eric Adams called Gov. Greg Abbot’s busing of immigrants “un-American” earlier this month.

Volunteers from Masbia Relief told News 12 that many of those have been arriving hungry – some didn’t have shoes. They say a majority didn’t know what their next move was upon arriving in the New York.

New York Immigration Coalition rallied on the steps of City Hall to call on the government to meet the needs of the migrants who arrive on those buses.

The coalition says the federal, state and local governments need to step up when it comes to providing services and support.

Organizers plan to launch their Welcome New York Campaign, an initiative where their goal is to help make the transition as smooth as possible and provide the asylum seekers with any resources they need to find jobs, a place to stay and more.
