As kids get ready to hit the books this school year, the New York Public Library wants parents to know there's more than just reading going on between its shelves.
Starting in September, branches across the Bronx will begin their fall and winter programming, which means there will be various free drop-in workshops available.
There's story time for young children, science projects and English conversation classes for young adults, resume building courses and a quilting club.
"It's not cookie cutter, it's very different from branch to branch," says NYPL Francis Martin branch manager Linda Jones.
One of the new classes coming to the Francis Martin branch this fall is coding for young girls. The course, which typically comes at a cost, is free at the library.
Two libraries in the borough will also serve as enrichment zones, where kids in first through eighth grades can come in regularly for help with school work.
Residents who don't find the program they're looking for can let a librarian know, and it could be available next season.
