A Bronx teen is getting a second chance at life after not knowing if he would ever get out from behind bars.
Pedro Hernandez became the poster boy for bail reform after rejecting a plea deal for an attempted murder he did not commit. That charge was dismissed last year.
But the teen had other charges pending against him in a separate case. But on Tuesday, the Bronx DA offered to dismiss the burglary and reckless driving charges against him.
Attorney Manuel Gomez says he worked hard to gather evidence to prove Hernandez's innocence.
"The greatest honor I have today is to finally keep my word to (Hernandez's) mother when I told her two years ago that I would free your son."
Hernandez's $250,000 bond had been reduced to about $100,000. Bail reform advocacy group The Robert F. Kennedy Foundation got involved and ultimately helped drop many of the charges.
Bronx DA Darcel Clark says that if Hernandez enrolls in a college and completes a semester, the court will fully dismiss both cases.
