Democratic mayoral candidate Kathryn Garcia spoke to News 12 after the latest numbers came down from the Board of Elections.
"We are still practicing patience, but we feel good," Garcia says.
Garcia is less than 15,000 votes behind frontrunner Eric Adams and neck and neck with Maya Wiley, who was eliminated in the final round of the BOE unofficial results but has not conceded
"I don't think she should concede yet. There are 124,000 votes out there. We have got to wait until they're all counted," Garcia says. "It's 13.5% of the overall vote, so it's going to make or break all of us."
Today, she spoke with us in her first interview since the BOE admitted their first batch of released numbers had a major discrepancy. She says things need to change.
"The mayor has got to work with the state, and Sen. Kruger and Assembly Member Rosik have a bill that would make substantial changes to the Board of Elections, and I would like to see that pass," Garcia explains.
She says if she wins, she won't move to Gracie Mansion and will instead remain in Park Slope, a place she's always called home.
But if she doesn't win, "I have not decided what comes next for me. I'm focused on this and then we'll make a decision going forward."
She also said she'll support whoever wins the Democratic ticket.
