Members of the Haitian community gathered outside Sen. Chuck Schumer’s office Thursday to call for help in stopping the violence in Haiti. 

The rally comes one day after the resignation of Haiti’s Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe. 

Members of the Haitian diaspora in the city are asking for help, as Haiti continues to be plagued by political and civil unrest. 

The group says innocent people are being kidnapped, assaulted and killed. 

They say they’re asking for Schumer in his role as Senate majority leader to ask the Biden administration to step up and recognize what’s going on in Haiti. 

Martin Brennan, state director for Schumer, addressed the group on behalf of the senator and said they conveyed to the State Department their concerns about the instability in Haiti. Brennan said that they look forward to working with the community to stabilize the country and secure human rights.
