Hundreds gathered outside Yankee Stadium in the Bronx Thursday to receive free Thanksgiving turkeys as part of the New York Yankees's annual food voucher giveaway.
People began lining up outside gates 2 and 8 around 10 p.m. on Wednesday to get the turkeys, which were distributed at 9:30 a.m. today. According to the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, nearly one out of three homes in the Bronx were considered "food insecure" between 2012 and 2014.
Organizers say about 2,500 food vouchers were handed out.
The vouchers are redeemable at all local C-Town and Bravo supermarkets
Those who qualify for the vouchers must be Bronx residents, organizers say.
The giveaway is intended to help provide Thanksgiving meals for those who are in need.
