The borough of Lavallette experienced major flooding on Friday as the rain continued to fall throughout the day.
The flooding in the Chadwick Beach section of the borough had water reaching almost calf level for residents.
People told News 12 they felt unprepared for the amount of flooding that had occurred. They say there were no alerts or advisories.
"Oh my gosh I can't even get to my house!" said Cheryl Hague, Chadwick Beach. "I'll probably take my sneakers off and once I get a little closer."
The rising water led to multiple street closures in the area, as well as blackouts.
