The city’s newest rules aimed at keeping the streets of the five boroughs clean will go into effect next Friday.
Residents like Madelynne Ramos say that doing things like laundry have become a major task because of the trash-ridden streets, and the rats that come with it.
New York City officials hope that’s going to change soon with their new rule that all businesses must use trash cans with lids when disposing of garbage instead of putting trash bags directly on the curb.
Restaurants and chains have had the lid mandate since 2023, but now it will apply to all businesses. The Department of Sanitation tells News 12 they’ve been distributing hundreds of thousands of flyers to business owners to months and that there are info sessions people can attend to learn more.
