The NYPD says two car crashes that happened close to each other left one woman dead and another in critical condition.

Both crashes took place a 10-minute drive away from each other in Williamsburg on Monday. The first of two crashes happened at the intersection of Richardson Street and Kingsland Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. on Monday, leaving one woman dead.

Police say they found an elderly woman lying in the crosswalk after being struck by a dump truck making a left turn and running a red light. Officers say the 28-year-old driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was eventually located by police.

Just a few blocks away on Leonard Street, law enforcement officials say an 87-year-old woman was struck by a car backing up into a parking space at around 6 p.m. last night. That woman is currently in critical condition.

“The traffic is normally typical, it’s usually only residents,” said concerned neighbor Diana Cafra. “We don’t usually have much restaurants or any commercial… the only commercial would be delivery trucks like UPS.”

Police have not made arrests in either of these crashes at this time and investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
