NYPD: Officers shoot fleeing man who pointed gun at sergeant in Canarsie
The NYPD says officers shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at a sergeant Friday night in Canarsie.
According to police, officers in unmarked vehicles heard a gunshot and saw a man running out of a convenience store on Flatlands Avenue and East 80th Street around 9:45 p.m.
Investigators say the officers chased the 50-year-old man and identified themselves, but he didn’t stop. They say the man then pointed a gun at a uniformed sergeant.
The NYPD released this image taken from bodycam video of the man who was shot.
At that point, police say four officers fired their weapons and hit the man in the torso. He was taken into custody, given medical aid and transported to Brookdale University Hospital where he is in critical condition.
Police say a ghost gun was also recovered from the store and that the incident was captured via police bodycam and on security video.
