A heavy police presence could be seen at the "Joker" film premiere at Lincoln Center Wednesday night.
The NYPD says it has concerns of potential violence. Police say there is no specific or credible threats at this time, but they are closely monitoring the movie premieres.
Moviegoers attending the movie premiere at Bay Plaza Mall tell News 12 they are happy about the NYPD's decision to monitor the screenings of the film.
Concern around the release of "Joker" follows the 2012 mass shooting at the "Dark Knight Rises" midnight premiere in Aurora, Colorado. The shooting left 12 people dead.
The "Joker" film is set to give a disturbing view into Batman's nemesis and who he is.
New Yorkers are not letting fear dictate whether they will see a movie but they tell News 12 the "what if something happened" thought has definitely crossed some minds.
AMC tells News 12 that anyone with masks, face paint or anything that conceals their face will not be allowed inside. They say this is standard protocol.
The NYPD will be deploying officers as needed throughout the weekend as New Yorkers head out to see the film.
