Pizza delivery driver fired over alleged racist text sent to customer

A Nassau pizza delivery driver is out of a job after a Massapequa woman said he sent her a racist text message after not tipping him.
When Lashae Jerry was in Wantagh Park Saturday, she ordered some pizza for her kids from a nearby pizza parlor.
She says the delivery took nearly two hours and decided not to give the driver a tip. But then she said the driver sent her a hateful text message,
"I was upset, I mean, I started crying, I feel very disrespected, I felt like it was discrimination," Jerry said. "It was racist and it was very hurtful."
Lashae showed News 12 Long Island the message she said she got, which said, "Black Lives Matter but URS doesn't. U (expletive) get outta Wantagh."
She said the driver was Caucasian and the message upset her mother, Monique Hawkins, so much that she stormed into the pizza parlor to confront the owner.
The owner didn't want to go on camera with News 12 Long Island, but apologized for the driver's behavior, offered their money back and fired the driver on the spot. Police were later called and took a statement from Lashae.
Nassau County said their investigation into this is still open and they are conferring with the district attorney's office for possible further action.
Police add that at the time of the incident, Jerry seemed to be satisfied that the driver was fired and did not want further action. But now Hawkins said her daughter is not satisfied at all.
"There needs to be a deeper investigation into this because of the fact she shouldn't have to feel that she can't go to certain areas of our community. She shouldn't have to feel that way," Hawkins said.
Jerry and her mother said they are now looking at possible legal options.
