A massive fire in Fordham killed a 57-year-old man and destroyed people’s belongings two days before Thanksgiving.
According to FDNY, flames broke out before 9:30 p.m. Monday night inside of a house at 2677 Bainbridge Ave. Officials say it quickly spread to two neighboring houses – one of which was an at-home day care center.
Police say a 57-year-old man, who was inside of the attic, died. The American Red Cross said 20 people, including 17 adults and three children, were displaced.
"My mother died 15 days ago…Now, I’m going to start from zero and see where I'm going to live,” said one of the victims. “I’m new here in the United States. I’ve only been here for five months.”
The FDNY says the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
