Students and police officers came together for a friendly game of basketball at a Bronx high school Monday night.

The event took place at Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School and was organized by Fred Washington, a police officer at the 42nd Precinct.

The tournament is part of a program called "Together We Are Better," which was launched in an effort to improve relations between the NYPD and the community.

"We want to look at police officers as not just people in uniforms, but humans," said City Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson. "We want our young people to not be looked at as criminals, but as youth with potential."

The students and officers say they had so much fun that they closed the event with their very own mannequin challenge.

The police force is expected to visit more local schools as part of their program in the future.
