Police say a man is in custody and facing charges after he stabbed an elderly woman Sunday morning in Fordham Heights.
According to the NYPD, 38-year-old Edwin Rios followed a 75-year-old woman into an elevator inside of an apartment building at 2066 Morris Ave. at around 11:30 a.m. Once inside, officers say he stabbed her in the head multiple times.
The victim has been identified as Zonona Ramos. She was taken to treatment where she is now in stable condition. Ramos tells News 12 that she needed 40 stitches after the stabbing on her hands alone, not including the ones she needed on her face and head.
"He hit me everywhere, when his knife fell to the floor. I pushed it by mistake that's when it fell to the floor, and then he picked it back up and i thought he was gonna kill me with that knife," said Ramos.
Officials say that she is expected to make a full recovery, but that doesn't help her neighbors who are now worried.
The NYPD says Edwin Rios is now being charged with attempted murder. Rios was arrested and charged for attempting to kill another person in 2013.
