Police determined that a device that was found inside a Gowanus Home Depot on Friday morning was a hoax.
Both the store and the Jetro Restaurant depot on Hamilton Avenue between 15th and 16th streets were evacuated after police said a 911 call came in of a suspicious device found in the hardware section of the store.
The incident started around 8:15 a.m., but by 10 a.m. the suspicious device deemed a hoax.
Workers said an announcement came over the loudspeaker urging everyone to leave the building. The bomb squad was then called in to examine it.
For almost two hours, officers searched the staircases and the rooftop of the store.
Workers were allowed back into the building shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Police said the device was taken to a lab for testing.
