The coronavirus pandemic has many New Yorkers thinking twice about what they touch, but some surfaces are hard to avoid, and one company is lending a hand to protect customers at the gas pump.
Jericho Wholesale decided to give customers a hand in protecting themselves while they fill up.
“We saw a need for our customers to feel more comfortable at our locations while getting fuel during the pandemic. So we came up with the slogan, 'Show some love, grab a glove,'” said Jericho Wholesale Chief Operating Officer Adam Wolf.
That slogan is now stamped above the nozzle at all Shell gas stations owned by the third-generation, Long Island-based company in New York City and beyond.
All customers have to do is ask the cashier to get free disposable gloves. There are 15 locations in Brooklyn and five in the Bronx.
All of them have plenty of garbage bins to keep the gloves from ending up on the ground.
Approximately 1.2 million gloves were distributed to the dozens of Jericho-owned Shell stations across the tri-state area. So far, about two-thirds of them have been handed out to customers.
To stay even safer, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends washing your hands or using hand sanitizer when you’re fueling up.
