Borough president launches holiday toy drive at Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo hosted the launch of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.'s annual holiday toy drive to benefit military families Friday morning and students from P.S. 205 were there to help.
The toy drive collects new, unwrapped toys to give to military families to brighten their holiday. Many of them won't be with their families this holiday season, and it is also a 'thank you' to family members who sacrifice abroad.
"Many of them won't be back on time, many of them won't be with their families and their family members who also sacrifice," Diaz Jr. says. "So this is a way to say thank you to them."
Those who donate a new, unwrapped toy at any of the Wildlife Conservation Society wildlife parks across the city will receive a free ticket to the Bronx Zoo or the New York Aquarium.
This is the 11th year the Bronx Zoo and the borough president have partnered to donate toys during Veteran's Day week.
"It's important for us to understand the role and responsibility we have to give back," said John Calvelli of WCS.
Donations will be accepted until Dec. 31.
