A community has come together to honor the legacy of a businessman three years after he died in a freak accident at his shop.
"Don" Alfredo Thiebaud was a carpenter, cabbie and most notably a hard worker, building the Delicioso Coco Helado flavored ice business on St. Ann's Avenue that remains successful today.
Dozens of family, friends and community leaders joined Tuesday to co-name the intersection of St. Ann's Avenue and East 161st Street Alfredo Thiebaud Way.
On Sept. 19, 2014, a gate to Thiebaud's business fell on him, killing him. He was 74 years old.
Community members say the street co-naming is the perfect way to commemorate a man who meant so much to the neighborhood.
Delicioso Coco Helado sells more than 1 million cups of flavored ice every summer.
