A new report shows some of the lower-income Bronx areas do not have access to banking institutions.
U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn) says banks are obligated to open services to all areas they serve. Some residents say that isn?t necessarily happening in their area.
?All we have around here are ATM machines and stores, supermarkets and that's like another $1.50, $2 in some places, just to use your ATM card,? Schel Chisholm, of Soundview, says.
The study also says 24 banks have been added to the Bronx over the last six years, while 168 have been added to Manhattan.
Bronx residents say they hope the study brings attention to the problem and that more banks will be added to areas like Soundview.
