Bronx residents have the opportunity to voice their opinions about how to make the Cross Bronx Expressway better at a workshop tonight at M.S. 331 in Morris Heights.
Those in attendance will have the chance to weigh in on how to improve the Cross Bronx Expressway and the neighborhoods surrounding it.
One idea from a federally funded study would involve capping the highway, which could limit pollutants while creating more public space. Other improvements maycome to the surrounding areas as well, such as more bus lanes, camera enforcement, and more bike lanes.
Nilka Martell is the founder of Loving the Bronx, a community partner for the project.
"It's always been about the community and looking at ways that we could reduce the air and the noise pollution the Bronx has one of the highest childhood asthma rates and looking at different measures on how we can decrease that air pollution and noise pollution," said Martell.
The first meeting will be held Wednesday at M.S. 331 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Another meeting will be held on Saturday Oct. 26 at P.S. 106 in Parkchester from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The last workshop will be virtually on Monday, Oct. 28.
