New York City's public outdoor pools opened today amid a lifeguard shortage across the city.
Pools are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily with a cleaning break from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. Park officials say you must have a swimsuit to enter. If you are going to wear a shirt, it must be white as colored shirts are not allowed. Officials also say leave food, glass bottles, jewelry, credit cards and electronic devices at home.

As opening day kicks off the excitement for summer, there is a concern of lifeguard shortages for all the 50 pools across NYC.
Last week, the parks department said it had less than half of the 400 lifeguards needed to fully staff pools. At that time, it said there were 490 guards total for pools and beaches. Today, News 12 was told that it has now 600 lifeguards.
