Speeding cars and jaywalkers are a dangerous combination at a Castle Hill intersection.
Officials say a man was fatally struck by a car at the Bruckner Boulevard and Castle Hill Avenue intersection just two days ago.
“Something needs to be done about this intersection. It's not safe for the businesses. For the neighborhood,” said a worker at a nearby business.
News 12 crews observed multiple cars run red lights at the intersection.
Vision Zero statistics show dozens of injuries at the intersection over the past few years.
“You're probably making it a few seconds or a few minutes faster to where your destination is, you need to think about if this is your loved one,” said a worker at a nearby business.
Dorothy Febus, a community council member at the 43rd Precinct says cars aren’t the only ones making the intersection unsafe.
“Start doing jaywalking tickets,” Febus said.
News 12 crews observed multiple people crossing the Bruckner Boulevard and Castle Hill Avenue intersection against the light.
“They should also enforce that too because that will help people with being safe,” said Febus.
She said speed bumps were installed at the intersection a few years ago but did nothing for the safety concern.
“We need speed bumps like they have near the schools, big speed bumps,” said Febus.
She said that better speed bumps and a speed camera should be installed.
