Residents who live in Jaimie Towers in the Bronx tell News 12 they are going under trying to pay their recently increased rent.
Tenants tell News 12 that their rent was increased last month and that it was a 54% increase in carrying charges. Those tenants came together at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in Castle Hill to voice their concerns to those in charge.
At the town hall, members of the Division of Housing and Community Renewal, which oversees the housing complex spoke with tenants, many of whom left dissatisfied.
"The water situation is still deplorable, you cannot use the water," said one tenant. "It's very hard to give them $519 extra dollars when you are faced with the same conditions in which you had."
News 12 crews have captured multiple living issues at these towers in the past, including brown water and mold.
Residents received a notice that their maintenance charges would get a price hike back in January. News 12 reached out to the company that oversees Jaimie Towers and is awaiting a response.
