The new year arrives on Sunday night. While around 1 million people are expected to descend on Times Square for the ball drop, there are plenty of other traditions that New Yorkers will be taking part in to usher in 2024.
In Italy, people ring in the new year by eating a dish of lentils. The tradition is believed to bring wealth and prosperity for years to come.
In Colombia, people carry around empty suitcases on New Year's Eve. It's said that this yearly tradition is to bring people a year of travel.
