An officer with the NYPD is accused of making racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and derogatory comments to multiple public message forums online.
A city council investigation found that deputy inspector James Kobel posted at least 500 comments on the public message forum called "Law Enforcement Rant."
Ritchie Torres, congressman-elect for New York's 15th district, is asking for Kobel to be fired.
"Mr. Kobel reserved special vitriol for Black people who he consistently describes as wild animals, saves and beasts," Torres says.
The NYPD told News 12 that: "While the evidence in the written report was circumstantial, it merited immediate investigation. Given the nature of the allegations and the sensitivity of his assignment, the decision has been made to remove him while the investigation proceeds."
