Emergency repairs are underway after a water main broke in Union Township along Morris Avenue near the Lowes shopping center on Route 82.
American Water crews have been working to shut down the main since about 7 a.m. Tuesday. They say that due to the complexity of this water main break, they'll be working overnight into Wednesday morning making repairs.
American Water also says Route 82 will remain closed in both directions until the completion of the repair, which is expected to happen Wednesday morning before rush hour.
Route 82 eastbound detour:
  • Motorists on Route 82/Morris Avenue eastbound will be directed to turn left onto Stuyvesant Avenue
  • Turn right onto Vauxhall Road
  • Turn right on Salem Road back to Route 82/Morris Avenue eastbound
Route 82 westbound detour:
  • Motorists on Route 82/Morris Avenue westbound will be directed to turn right onto Salem Road
  • Turn left onto Vauxhall Road
  • Turn left onto Stuyvesant Avenue back to Route 82/Morris Avenue
American Water says that at this time there is no customer impact, but customers in Union and Elizabeth may experience reduced water pressure and discolored or cloudy water during the repair.
