A community in Orange County is rallying behind a family recently touched by tragedy after they also lost their home in a two-alarm blaze.
A GoFundMe for the Santos family has raised more than $10,000 since Thursday when their garage caught fire, around 12:30 p.m. on Maureen Drive in Slate Hill.
According to the fundraiser’s organizer, the homeowner’s wife died in March, and he lived there with their four children, ages 4 - 16.
News 12 spoke to neighbors who say they’re sorry to see what happened and saw firefighters trying to save the house.
“I came back to see what it was and when I came around the block,” says Jeff Maycrink. “I saw it was my neighbor’s house and there were a lot of fire trucks here.”
The family’s GoFundMe states the blaze was sparked by an electrical problem, but officials say the cause remains under investigation.
