New York City officials have launched a new action plan to prevent the growing problem of battery fires across the city.
Mayor Eric Adams' office says at least 13 deaths and 66 injuries have been reported due to fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.
These types of batteries are found in everything from cellular phones to laptops, tablets and other common electronics.
The new plan will expedite investigations into complaints made through 311 about hazardous conditions.
Approximately 108 lithium-related fires have been reported this year alone, including a fatal incident at an e-bike repair shop.
The FDNY announced a fire on Wednesday also involved a lithium battery, and sent two people to the hospital.
