An alleged gang member accused of firing at officers in Uniondale is being held without bail after going before a judge Wednesday.
Vazquez is charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, as well as weapon charges.
Police say Vazquez was caught after a wild, dangerous shootout that started when officers spotted a car involved in an earlier robbery in Levittown.
Police say the driver refused to pull over and then shot at police, hitting their car. Officers returned fire before the suspect fled on foot.
Police say Vazquez tried to once more open fire on them but that his gun didn't go off and police eventually cornered him.
According to police, Vazquez is also wanted for a shooting in Hempstead in which an individual almost died. He is also being investigated for ongoing cases of robberies in Nassau County.
Police say at least one officer was injured during the chase.
