Bronx residents in Kingsbridge and drivers in the borough are dealing with headaches as they navigate around a major sinkhole on Heath Avenue.
Residents tell News 12 that a smaller hole in the ground appeared in the same spot last year due to an underground leak, but last week, the street problems got a whole lot worse.
“A heavy car or truck goes by here, and it could be a big accident,” said one concerned local.
One resident who did not want to speak on camera tells News 12 that he has filed multiple 311 complaints but has yet to see any action. He adds that when it rains, the sinkhole floods – which he believes could lead to a major collapse.
The city's Department of Transportation provided the following statement:
"NYC DOT responded quickly to help secure the area and keep New Yorkers safe. We have inspected this location and will continue working on repairs."
